The state of North Carolina has some of the most amazing beach resorts. Here are five of the best that the state has to offer.

  • The Outer Banks – This is one of the more picturesque North Carolina beach locations. It is also very affordable even in the peak of summer. The Outer Banks is famous for its historical background and the tall sand dunes which dot the entire length of the beach. In terms of history, this is the place where the Wright Brothers first built and trialed the Kitty Hawk, the world first flying airplane. While you are not lying on the beach soaking in the sun, there are plenty of restaurants and unique shops to wander about in the town.
  • Bald Head Island – This distinctive island in North Carolina is still a very much undiscovered gem of a location. Nestled between several miles of white sandy beaches, rich wildlife and quaint maritime shops, you get the feeling of being well away of the ordinary. The island is steep in history, boasting the oldest lighthouse in the state, Old Baldy. For the more adventurous type, you will get an amazing view should you venture up to the top of the lighthouse.  Furthermore, cars are not allowed onto the island so the lack of traffic is immediately noticeable. The only way of getting around the island is by walking or golf cart. Bald Head Island is the ideal place for city dwellers looking to reconnect with the soul and de-stress from the hustle and bustle of city life.
  • Sunset Beach - This destination is located in the southern tip of the state. Although it is only about 4 miles long, there are a lot of things to do in this serene and quiet beach resort including, shopping, golfing and dining. Sunset Beach is very popular with families as it is usually less crowded that the other destinations
  • Wrightsville Beach - Another beach location to get the best of the Atlantic Ocean is Wrightsville Beach. This place has a much laid back attitude and charm that is very contagious with travelers returning to this destination summer after summer.  Wrightsville Beach is literally minutes away from Wilmington, just a straight path down Interstate 40 making it the most accessible best destination in North Carolina
  • Carolina Beach – This is another family oriented destination with plenty of attraction to pull in the crowds including an amusement park, fireworks displays and music festivals. Other attractions in Carolina Beach include a state park, aquarium and plenty of shopping options for the entire family.
